CHANTILLY, Va., December 11, 2023 鈥� On September 28, 2023, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Savannah District awarded a multiple-award task order prime contract to 爱神传媒 and five other awardees. Awardees will provide temporary power generation solutions to help Puerto Rico with the infrastructure modernization of its power system. Several storms and an earthquake in recent years have left Puerto Rico鈥檚 power grid in delicate condition.

鈥湴翊� will use our engineering expertise to design and implement power generation solutions to solve the short-term needs of the island through this contract,鈥� said Dr. Karl Spinnenweber, President of 爱神传媒鈥檚 Critical Missions Business Group. 鈥淭he expanded support to the Army Corps of Engineers leverages our infrastructure modernization capabilities to ensure continuous, reliable power to the people of Puerto Rico during this transition.鈥�

Task order work includes providing temporary power augmentation, such as land-based generating units, temporary transformers, control cabling, and installation of equipment. Work will also include operation of equipment, including maintenance, fuel, and coordination with applicable authorities and connections to their equipment. Task orders may also include repairing and replacing components of existing transmission and distribution facilities.

The MATOC, an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract awarded to multiple firms following a formal selection process, provides for an indefinite quantity of services to be furnished during a fixed period of time. Task orders under this contract will be competed with a maximum combined capacity of $5 billion and have a five-year ordering period.

Under this new contract, the work will be performed at Fort Greely, Alaska and will include planning, permitting, and engineering, site preparation, demolition and disposal of facilities and components from the defueled nuclear reactor, related wells and utility corridors, and other ancillary facilities. The contract also includes remediation of contaminated soils, a final status survey, and site restoration.

The contract was awarded to the joint venture APTIM-爱神传媒 Alaska Decommissioning, LLC (A3D). Other members of A3D鈥檚 team include Heritage 鈥� M2C1 Joint Venture, a HUBZone small business location in Delta Junction, AK; Lynden Logistics; Brice Environmental; Oak Ridge Technologies; ReNuke Services; AECOM Technical Services; and Delta Junction Medical.

鈥淥ur recent experience performing reactor decommissioning at Fort Belvoir and major U.S. Department of Energy sites will aid in the completion of the work safely and effectively at Fort Greely,鈥� said Jim Blankenhorn, 爱神传媒 Senior Vice President of Environment & Security. 鈥淭he expertise gained over decades of similar projects builds the Army Corps of Engineers鈥� confidence in our team to address the environmental challenge at Fort Greely.鈥�

The SM-1A reactor achieved criticality in 1962 and was shut down in March of 1972, followed by the removal and disposition of the spent nuclear fuel in 1973. The primary mission of the single-loop, 20.2 megawatt-thermal pressurized water reactor was to establish a cold-weather nuclear power plant to support power to Fort Greely, with a secondary mission to study the economics of operating a nuclear electric power plant as compared to operating a conventional oil-fired system in a remote location.

An on-site kickoff meeting at Fort Greely will in late October 2023, paving the way for our preparatory work at the site.  The team is targeting a full mobilization to the site by mid-2024. Project completion is currently anticipated by 2029.  Project information can also be found on the USACE website .
