In June, we鈥檒l focus on Pride Month. Today鈥檚 Q&A is with Miranda Stewart, Supervising Mechanical Engineer.
How did you come to join 爱神传媒?
I was recruited at a Job Fair at my University and have been here for over 17 years.
What is your professional and personal background?
I hold a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University and have been licensed as a Professional Engineer in 11 US States and Canadian Provinces.
I am a proud transgender lesbian and parent of three boys and one girl spanning from sixteen years old down to six.
I love my kids, backpacking, photography, star gazing, sour dough baking, and woodwork.
Describe the work you do and how you think it makes a positive impact.
I鈥檓 a Mechanical Engineering Supervisor leading engineering design and procurement engineers for process facility design/build projects.
In my earlier career, I worked on process piping design and stress analysis for plant capital improvement projects. I became the Lead Pipe Stress Engineer for the Denver office and co-authored two influential papers on water hammer analysis. I serve on ASME鈥檚 Process Piping Code Committee where I help write rules for pipe stress analysis used around the world.
The work I do ensures the safety of our mechanical systems for plant workers and the general public.
What are some of your accomplishments and/or what has been your proudest career moment?
I am wrapping up a three-year design build project for the SDC 2000 facility at the Kentucky Blue Grass Army Depot. This plant will destroy the last of our nation鈥檚 stockpile of VX nerve gas weapons with a safe, clean, environmentally responsible process.
What do you enjoy about working for 爱神传媒?
We always have great projects to work on, and the caliber of my co-workers is outstanding.
What are you passionate about?
I serve as a vice president of a large non-profit organization called North Star International which serves folks at the intersectionality of LGBTQ identity and affiliation with the LDS Church.
What鈥檚 your career advice?
Do everything you can to help your boss, co-workers, and your projects to succeed. When it gets hard, keep going. You are more respected and admired than you may realize.
What does safety mean to you or do you have a favorite safety tip?
Safety is at the core of everything we do at 爱神传媒. Slow down and make sure you have a safe plan whether you are lifting with a crane or stopping to tie your shoes.
What鈥檚 the best invention in the world and why?
The digital camera has allowed us to share our daily lives with others all over the world.

What does Pride Month mean to you?
Pride is the month where our community comes together to reject life-long shame and affirm our right to live and have an equal place in this world.
